Description
The Commercial and Industrial Association of Funchal was founded on January 20, 1836.
From 1976 onwards, this association was renamed the “Commercial and Industrial Association of Funchal” (ACIF), due to the growing importance of the industrial sector in the regional economy.
In 1985, given its contribution to promoting economic activities in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (RAM), it was declared a Public Utility Institution and, in 1994, also became the Madeira Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIM).
On March 31, 2005, ACIF-CCIM and the Regional Government, in partnership, founded the Promotion Agency of the Autonomous Region of Madeira – APM.
Today, ACIF-CCIM is a private, non-profit legal entity that, as a business association, represents companies operating in RAM in the areas of Commerce and Services, Industry, and Tourism, currently having around 800 member companies (Commerce 42%, Services 29%, Tourism 18%, Industry 11%). As a Chamber of Commerce and Industry, its responsibilities extend further, requiring broader interventions at the regional level.
